you made the allegations of lying I merely pointed out that Suarez, Comolli and Kuyt all changed their stories, the latter two seemingly when they realised / were told that their accounts contradicted the player who had been accused.

how convenient

massive increases in the amounts of tax players will be forced to pay, which iirc was an increase from 20% -> 54%, which would mean massive pay rises were needed for top players to keep earning the same.

I would expect so

'Foreign footballers have been taking advantage of a loophole allowing them to only pay 24% income tax since 2003, when David Beckham was the first to enjoy the benefits of this law following his move to Real from Man Utd.

However, the Spanish government have just scrapped the loophole meaning all foreign footballers will now have to pay 54% tax on their income. Good news for the Premier League, as teams can now compete in terms of wages with the Spanish giants once again, but bad news for players like Ronaldo who is on a whopping £250,000 per-week.

The changes to tax laws will mean either Ronaldo will in effect take a huge pay-cut to remain in Spain, or Madrid will have to increase his wages. Unlikely given they’re already shelling-out £250,000 a week!'

There's no way the footballers in Spain will be paying 54% tax. They'll have numerous accountants that ensure they don't pay anything like that amount.

Thought the Spanish Government were determined to block any loop holes?

most of the big earners probably don't even pay their taxes in Spain (like english based players) - many used to be paid in Luxembourg or Lichenstein etc - don't know if it's still the case

By the way, an outstanding interview from John Barnes on Sky news before.

Not sure on some of his 'punditry', but on things like this he's bang on.

Watched that last night. Speaks more sense in 5 minutes than most people have on this forum in 2 months. Fanatastic interview.

Rob, do you rate Abel Hernadez? Apparantley he's the latest to be linked with us?
