surely that begs the question why they need to be signing three or four more overseas players for next year?

if these players coming through are so good, why arent they replacing feka, bailey, phelps and riddell?

The ability to bring the younger players in when needed but not throw them in every match is the way to go if you simply remove all the experience then you are setting up for disaster, at the end of the day experience takes time and if wigan are looking at players like hoffman and lima this will only benefit the younger players in the long run

Id agree, but the players Wigan are rumoured to sign are a 2nd rower, a Prop and half back, areas where wigans development is apparently very strong.

you have in the 2nd row Hansen, and Tomkins, who are first team players, and Farrell, Tuson, and Mossop who will all be 21/22 next year, at that age they arent going to benefit from not getting game time

at Prop Davies is 20, Ryan Bailey had 3seasons under his belt, James Graham the same, Sam Burgess the same, Nick Scruton had 2, Luke Ambler has 2 seasons of lower league and this of SL under his belt and he is the same age as Davies. If he has the quality to make it, why at this stage of his career is he only fit for 6th choice prop?

Dont get me wrong, across the board we need to cut down, including at my own club. But it seems strange that Wigan are making such huge noises regarding their youth development yet going overseas for 1/2 their match day squad.

This season in particular it has shown us that we need a big squad. not much has been made of the injuries at Wigan but we have had Bailey, O'Loughlin, Hansen, Roberts, Phelps, O'Carroll and McIllorum out for long periods during the course of this season. luckily we've had the strength in depth to get through these periods. it looks like we're doing the same for next season and rather than having a good team, we're running with a good squad.

Hardly trained in the UK. Leuluai might only have been 18 but he had played NRL and Test rugby for NZ before he came to the UK.
