South African bands : Mon Aug 24, 2015 11:59 am
I've been living in South Africa a year and a half now, another two and a half to go assuming my visa extension is approved.
Two things I didn't expect to experience here, but have been a great bonus are: The local craft beer. Lots of good IPA type stuff, and lots of bars serving them, and some great outdoor beer festivals. Beer festivals that feature: Live local bands, playing original music. Here are a few to look out for The Motherland https://www.facebook.com/motherlandband?fref=ts We've seen these more than any other band. They play almost all the festivals, and three weeks out of four they play my favourite local bar: https://www.facebook.com/SocialOnMain1?fref=ts on a Sunday afternoon. Those sessions typically feature four acts. A lot if solo singer/songwriter, but also bands. They're free Crash Car Burn https://www.facebook.com/crashcarburn?fref=ts whilst they sound a little like Busted, they're a lot better than that. Very good live. Prime Circle https://www.facebook.com/Prime.Circle?fref=ts Thought they were soft rock because of one of the singles they released was very soft, but much harder and louder live. Gangs of Ballet https://www.facebook.com/GangsOfBallet?fref=ts three piece with great guitaring Monark https://www.facebook.com/monarkband?fref=ts play almost all the local festivals too finally, Jeremy Loops https://www.facebook.com/jeremyloops?fref=ts Never thought I'd like a one man band that feaures rap segments, but another act that is great live. |
