Earlier today I was musing on the feudal, mediaeval nature of royal titles.
Your Majesty.
Your Royal Highness.
I mean, come on, is there really any place in a modern world for such overblown serf-like sycophancy?
No, not at all, possibly "Sir" or "Ma'am" would do but then its a term of address that I might use for anyone, certainly wouldn't be comfortable calling someone "Majesty" or "Highness".
And on a related topic I had to smile last night when I read that Danny Boyle was rumoured to recently have turned down a knighthood because it would destroy his self image of being "normal" and his commonality (if there is such a word) - good for him, if placed in the same position then I'd like to think I'd do the same, its one reason why I don't want Kevin Sinfield to accept any award that a fawning RFL may wish to eventually nominate him for - would destroy his self image straight off
