Hillsborough holds 39,000, though hasn't been anywhere near full this season, we had 37,000 in for the last game of last season, the police and the "safety advisory group" wouldn't allow us to use the North West Corner (segregation issues).
FA Cup semi finals being played at Wembley stems back to '93 when we ANNIHLATED Sheff Utd at Wembley (2-1, after extra time ). The FA had said Arsenal vs Spurs (I think?) would be played at Wembley but we'd have to play our semi final at E**and Ro*d, as you can imagine the Sheffield folk kicked up a fuss and it got moved, and I think they have pretty much been at Wembley ever since, obviously not when the old one was being knocked down and the new one built.
As for it being the only ground to get all of City/Man Ure fans in, maybe if the FA gave them a fair proportion of tickets!! They've been allocated around 34,000 seats each which means almost a third of Wembley's capacity will be taken up by the corporate prawn sandwich brigade, which I think is a joke, punishing the proper fans (I'm informed Man U do have some!) certainly in City's case.
