We have a cup history with them (ref called the game off for bad light when we were well beat & we won the replay) should be easier this time round.

In 1964, Oldham reached the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup against Hull Kingston Rovers, the tie is remembered for taking three games to find the winner, the first match at Headingley finished 5–5, the replay at Station Road, Swinton was 14-14 at the end of normal time and then finished prematurely 17–14 in Oldham's favour when the game was abandoned mid-way through the second half of extra time due to bad light, and the third game was won by Hull Kingston Rovers 12–2 at Fartown, Huddersfield.

Remarkably the other semi final was also drawn, Widnes beating Castleford in the replay.

No it isn't but in this case I corrected their mistakes and added the info about the other semi. They didn't tell us that the first replay was drawn at full time and was only abandoned in extra time.

I actually thought there may be Rovers fans on here with a genuine interest in the clubs history.

I use Wiki for all sorts of things it is the most wonderful thing on the internet IMO even though they are a bit sparse on Rovers info.

The Rovers line up for the 1964 semi versus Oldham;

C. kellett, G. Paul, T. Major, J. Moore, M. Blackmore, A Burwell, A. Bunting, B. Tyson, P. Flanagan, J. Taylor, E. Palmer, L. Clark, H. Poole.

I actually have a photo of the great Rovers team of 1963/64 and the matchday programmes from all 3 of the memorable 1964 semis, part of the memorabilia left to me by that great Rovers supporter my Dad.
