I ran a junior football team for 5 years. Now run a pub team.
The pub team is easier by miles. No irate parents for starters.
One of my personal favourites was having a team of 11 year olds and comments like "Get stuck in!" or "Give `em some grief." This usually from the mothers.

Come now sir, technical proficiency is no substitute for good old fashioned bulldog spirit and battlefield analogies. It isn't badminton, you know.

Both my lads play rugby and football. There is a marked difference between the attitudes of football parents and rugby parents whilst watching youngsters play.
One thing is for certain, we produce a lot more Super League players in this city than we do Premiership footballers and we have far, far more kids playing football than we do rugby.

Is that because you find it easier to stick to the laws whilst driving at Butlins? Must be hard doing it all on the wrong side of the road using a different unit for speed.

I was once playing amateur RL and in this one game there was a woman who I would discribe as a screaming banshe was supporting the opposition and hurling abuse at us.
Our hooker at one point turned around and just shouted 'get the pots washed love'.
Her reply was to shout 'I don't have too my husband does them'
'Who's your husband as he sounds a bit hen pecked to me' was our hookers reply.
'HIM' shouted the very nice woman pointing to their second rower.
Almost everyone of us shouted 'IS THAT YOUR WIFE????'
Looking very sheepish the second rower muttered under his breath whilst looking at the ground 'yeah'
Thinking about the look on his face still makes me chuckle now.

BRING BACK THE CRAB.

Re: Chat Thread 6: Lighter, Fluffier, Pixier : Thu May 03, 2012 8:08 pm
I went to Butlins when I was a kid, hated it. I have an irrational fear of things on my wrists, never wear a watch & can only wear loose bangles or bracelets without a clasp, (I go bizerk if I can't undo the clasp). On the first day someone put a wristband on me with my chalet number on, I went mental trying to get it off. I lost a helium filled balloon & I got stung by a wasp all in one week. Never again.

Edit. Beaver club was good, got a badge.

Possibly.
The funny thing is that the game didn't stop our hooker was having this shouting match whilst the game was taking place (We had the ball in hand).
