Motto of the week -

It is the way of the weak to secretly bleat to those in authority rather than fight their own battles.

TBF i thought he was pretty poor.

I thought he was solid defensively along with the rest of the team.
Our forwards had a real hard time against one of the best packs in the division. I was worried about our go-forward at times and the speed of the play of the ball but we were dominated in the forwards and found it hard going. It never helps when you have on of SL's best forwards missing for a fair period.

Clint is a lazy defender and time and again he was defending outside Welham and he regularly was defending no one as we were 3 on 2 in defence. He made a great break in the first half then ran away from his support and threw a poor inside pass against his angle of run. He also got dominated in most of his carries. I'm not just having a pop for the sake of it but i'm afraid i just don't subscribe to the Newton fan club and he has plenty to prove if you ask me.

He's not a bad forward just not as good IMO as some think he is.

Clint has not played a SL game for a very long time so I can imagine he was trying to get in a breather at times by defending out wider than maybe he should be.

I thought he put in plenty of strong tackles but did get dominated alot going forwards.

He is a good player IMO and think we will see a far better player once he is upto full match fitness.

I like the player, but he has a lot to prove this season. His head wasn't with it last season, didn't seem to be in the country that often and then the injury saw him finish early.

I think he can be one of the best, if not the best in the league if he puts his head down and works hard. Time will tell.

We're coming to make some noise!

: Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:20 am
By all accounts nobody trains harder or works on their game more than Clint at Rovers. His diet is stuck to 24/7 and he is a model professional, or so i'm told!

I think match fitness is sometimes under-rated by many. If you dont use it you lose it the saying goes, he hasn't had the chance to use it at the top level for a long time so he was bound to be rusty, given a few more games and I think we'll see a much better Newton out there I know Chev had injuries but its taken him a season to get back into good form but look at the way he's playing now if he keeps that up for the rest of the season he'll be in the England side no problems.

Just watching the highlights on SLtv. What about the blatant obstruction on Cockayne for their drop goal?!?!?!?!

By far the best game Newton put in was the game against Huddersfield in the CC he was immense. Hopefully he can get upto that standard again, though he did have a solid game, and i'm sure he'll come into it more with match practice. Seem to remember Mark O'Neill did the same. Unspectacular at the beginning but came really into it near the end, hopefully a full season with a real injury will do him wonders.
