I think that Webster will be the first to admit that the Oldham debacle was partly his fault. Apart from the Captain's run (the light training session held the day before a game were the team just goes through their moves), the rest of the training sessions before the Oldham game were all undertaken with the Hull Academy. Webster obviously decided that this "easy" fixture was an opportunity to let the Hull Academy experience the training sessions of a Super League team. His heart was in the right place regarding developing youth rugby, but, unfortunately, that had the desired effect of installing complacency within the first team squad and the mentality that all they had to do to defeat Oldham was to turn up ......I'm sure that Webster has learned from this and will never take our current situation for granted again.
The preparation for this week's Castleford game however has been one of early starts, long days of training, media blackouts and talks involving all the squad and finalising Webster's game plan for the Castleford fixture ......And, consequently, we put 50+ points on a Super League team on their own patch.
Hopefully Webster and his team of players have learnt their lesson regarding the preparation regarding the Oldham game and now can go forward preparing for every fixture from now until the end of the season like they did for the Castleford game that kept a quality side to scoring no points in 40 minutes whilst scoring 38 points themselves.
