Iam lucky i can remember when we used to beat the Aussies with real forwards like Dennis Hartley,Mal Reilly,Jimmy Thompson and Johnnie Ward. These kids were frightened of no one,so they were half way there when it came to winning.Real muck and nettles players who would carry the ball through a minefield if you asked them to.Half backs like Millward,Hardisty and Hepworth who could tackle like forwards and directed the players round the pitch.Look at today's pack,Sinfield-ordinary at International level,Morley and Peacock too old,Wilkin more interested in promoting himself and showing the world the contents of his fridge,Gareth Ellis pretty anonymous.I am sick of hearing for the last thirty years that we are catching up,we are not and we never will unless we are prepared to bite the bullet and go back to playing with home grown players in super league.A certain Aussie player said he could not play another year in the N.R.L. and he was thinking of retiring because of the physical aspect of there game but he can play in the super league for a massive contract even though he is at the end of his career. All we are is a pension fund for Aussies who treat our game with contempt but don,t mind taking big bucks for one final pay day.

Great post, i too am old enough to remember them

Calderwood I thought did do ok for the rest of the game, Im not denying that but when it came down to him making a bread and butter catch he failed miserably when we needed him most.

Like I first said it's ok making a couple of tackles from square marker or a couple of scoots but you need the player to be solid in the area he plays.

Not on here, maybe on our board.

Maybe it's the bandwagon coloured glasses

We are well aware of that as you communicate them ad nauseam on here. I rate the opinion of a full time journalist over yours.

When someone suggested Calderwood was one of our best players you took issue with it, citing a "c*ck up" under the high ball as his only involvement of note in the match. Roby aside, Calderwood was one of our best players, making 17 tackles in the game which is pretty impressive for a winger. Deal with the fact that no one other than Rovers half-wits are singling out Calderwood for criticism and some are saying he was in our top 3.

Motto of the week -

It is the way of the weak to secretly bleat to those in authority rather than fight their own battles.

Pretty good point there.

I noticed each and every aussie sang their anthem with pride and were visibly revved up by it. Where as out half hearted effort was as pathetic as the performance on the pitch.

No pride in the shirt and no pride in their country, it was an embarrassment.

Cullen actually got hit the nail on the head i thought when mentioned refs and penalties.

A major problem is down to the speed of Super League as Pryce, Burrow et al all come up against unorganised defences off the back of the play the ball speed, instead of set lines which they they come across at International level.

Untill SL gets away from the 'get on a roll' school of thought we will always look devoid of ideas when we have ball in hand at International level.
