Hard Work Beats Talent, When Talent Doesn't Work Hard

Re: Shopping List 2023 : Thu Jun 09, 2022 11:45 am
Brought up Hawkins to a mate who supports Souths and lives in Sydney, he spoke really highly of him saying he would be a great signing and the potential to be the next NRL reserve grader to come over here and shine. Likened him to Drinkwater in that he plays really close to the line and has an excellent short kicking game. Their fan base were pretty much split on if it should have been Hawkins or Ilias that should have been starting 7 going into this season and some are wanting Hawkins to be given a shot now.

I wonder if Connors injuries would put a few teams off.

On another note, if Mitch, Scott and Wynne do well at centre, I would mind Carlos in the backrow, strong runner and good defender, think he would do a good job there.

I think Mitch would be the better option to look at as a future second row

That's in stark contrast to the Souths fan I've spoken to and a quick read of both of their forums. Seems about 80% of them think he's poor. I think it's irrelevent though. Matt Shaw says there's nothing in the Hawkins to Hull rumour anyway.

Opinions eh  I don't see how he could get a visa unless there is some passport loophole we could exploit.

He didn't say nothing in it, he said he hasn't chased it up, but one source said its news to them.

But agree with HF, not sure how he gets a visa unless he has a European passport.

Even if the South fans don't think he is good enough for the NRL, doesn't mean he won't be good enough for SL, particularly when you look at Carlos, Sao, Satae and Lovodua.

Would it not have to be specifically a UK passport now? I don't know - but I'm curious how it works from the perspective of our overseas recruitment. With a name like Hawkins, he'd probably not be relying on a direct paternal Greek or Spanish connection, tbf... if there's anything in the rumour.

Thanks I haven't seen that and can't find it on Twitter.

Was quite excited about French and Hawkins, have a bad feeling it will be Shaul and Gale instead.

I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!

Yep most probably at home on the sofa instead of in the stadium
