Hull Kingston Rovers have made rival Super League clubs aware that one of their contracted players is available for transfer after he expressed a desire to leave.
The transfer window for 2024 is now open, and Thirteen can reveal that top-flight sides have been contacted in recent days about the availability of one contracted Rovers star.
That player is Frankie Halton, with the forward approaching the Robins to inform them he wished to look for regular first-team rugby elsewhere. After a period of discussion between club and player, Rovers have now agreed to Halton’s request, effectively making him available for transfer.
Rovers chief executive Paul Lakin confirmed to Thirteen: “Frankie came to us and asked to leave several weeks ago, after a period of discussion, we have now granted him the opportunity to talk to other clubs.”
Halton’s management have wasted little time in taking their player to the market. Super League clubs have been informed of Halton’s availability and interest is already rising in the Ireland international, who has found opportunities limited under Willie Peters in 2023.
Halton has made just six appearances so far, with the last of those coming at the beginning of last month against St Helens. Since then, he has been unable to force his way into the side, despite an impressive 2022 campaign.
It is less than a year since Halton agreed a new two-year extension to his existing Rovers contract, taking him through to the end of the 2025 season. But his stint at Craven Park now looks to be heading for an end prematurely.
