We took him on, played him for a year, he was highly rated last year but can't get in the team this year. Given him a 2 year contract he was happy with and now he's got some competition for places he wants out. Bottom line is he's not as good as Linnet or Batchelor. We'll hold out for a fee we see fit if not he stays on as back up, can't see any 'cheek' in that
Holding him for ransom IMO, not putting him in the 21 or playing him the reserves, had him for a yearbamd alleging asking 65, he isn't worth that. That's alot of money in RL, for a back up player in a mid table side.
I don't blame KR they just won't get it for him, not many teams get transfer fee's nowadays look at us with Connor soon as they want out they generally get there own way.
Out of interest where would you get that from? It’s very specific amount, The club are well with in they’re right though he was happy enough to sign a extension and now he’s not getting a game there’s rumours he wants out, he’s not as good as Linnett or Batchelor so are the club supposed to drop either of them to accommodate him?

Or it could be seen as he’s holding the club to ransom

Possible, holding the player to ransom, was probably a bit over the top. Im guessing he wants to leave, Rovers aren't keen, so have put a high fee on him to trying and stop interest.
Depends if Rovers want to keep an unhappy player taking up cap money.

The problem with RL and contracts in general is they are in all honesty not worth a great deal due to the lack of big money in the game which is why other than major stars of the game or promising youth players there is little in the way of transfer fees. I'd say with Halton looking at it from the outside it looks as though Halton wants out due to lack of game time and Rovers are reluctant to let him go so have slapped a figure on to reduce interest or make it a worth while transaction. The thing with keeping a player that wants to move on though is the unrest this can cause within a squad and in a sport like RL that does more harm than letting a player move on.
Had the sport been awash with big money then transfer fees would be much more common but there simply isn't the money in the game.
Haltons a decent player but as has been said is no where near a value of £65K and very few clubs could afford that and ones that can do they really need to spend on a squad player?
As for Salford I'd like to think we have looked at and possibly made tentative enquiries for Ackers already based on the 1 year deal with Dwyer and the unknown in terms of Houghton. Think Ackers would make very good addition to the squad for next season and would reduce the need to use a quota spot at 9. All depends on who else would be circling for Ackers and how much it would take for Salford to allow him to go to another club.

If its too much then nobody will pay it and he'll stay with us. If he's not worth that then none of the big clubs who can afford him will come in for him (or he wont get a spot in their team) so his only option will be a relegation fighting club who probably can't afford the fee anyway. Not putting him in the 21 isn't holding to ransom, i can't imagine our coach not playing a player he thought was better than what he's picking.

I can see why as Hull fans you’d be more the keen on the idea of him coming to you because he walks in your team and strengthens you in a position that needs it, I personally wouldn’t of thought rovers would do business with Hull though so if he’s going I don’t think it would be Hull (I could be wrong)
As for him being unhappy at the start of the year I thought he would be left edge and Linnetts games would be managed but he’s just Mr consistent and is a 7 out of 10 and above week in week out so while he’s playing like that he can’t just be dropped, Frankie is just unfortunate at the moment

There is also looking after the player too, if he is unhappy and wants to play rugby (not even picked for the reserves), imagine if we had held out for a transfer for Abdul, Litten or Hadley, thru would have sat in the reserves instead of developing there career at Rovers. I'm not against Rovers getting a fee, but pricing teams out of signing him, meaning he is stuck
Although as Chris says, contracts aren't worth anything and in a salary cap sport, the power is with the player.
Would definitely improve our 13, which isn't too hard with our current backrow, would like to sign him, but wouldn't be too upset if he didn't sign.
