The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1999 regulate the requirements for driving licences and the structure of driver training. Schedule 2 to the regulations contains a list of driving licence categories and sub-categories (sometimes called groups) showing the
licence holder's entitlement to drive certain vehicles on driving licences issued after 1st January 1997.
Category D
Motor vehicles constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers having more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat, including any such vehicle drawing a trailer having a maximum authorised mass not exceeding 750 kilograms.
If you passed your test after 1st January 1997 you need to get category D on your licence before you can drive anything bigger than an 8 seater.
