It is strange turning up knowing we can play as loose as we want and still end up winning. Yet for all our dominance in the vast majority of games we are so shoddy for long periods that I can see Toulouse beating us again come the play offs. The last ten minutes yesterday had a couldn't be ar5ed feel down that left edge as we conceded two short kick offs and a soft try down that side.
I feel turning up these days is just going through the motions, similar to the team I guess.

To be fair I thought we tightened up against Sheffield ans Widnes. Enough to be comfortable that we'll do the same when the occasion demands. We should have a fully rested team with some big hitters coming back for the play offs. Toulouse beat us when we were possibly at our weakest during the season and they at their best. They've been ropey since.

How quickly we forget the years when a win was a cause of celebration because of it’s rarity. I would say enjoy it because we had enough seasons of despair for one club and just remember where we would be without the positive impact of our new owner.

I don't agree that we are going through the motions or shoddy.
It's not going to be Harlum Globetrotter stuff. The opposition are not as fit but that doesn't mean they can't play.

You have to build pressure same as it will be in SL.

Full credit to the Whitehaven players.
Only had 15 players and they gave their all, and tbh, I was delighted when they scored - think it got the biggest cheer of the day!
Thoroughly deserved the applause from all the fans at the end too.
Good luck to them.

Re: Whitehaven : Mon Sep 09, 2024 9:50 am
Like previous posts I've felt a bit flat at times knowing that we can probably send out any combination of thirteen players and still win (except Toulouse).
However we needed a season like this to get used to winning again, to get the feelgood factor back in the club and supporters, and allow us to bring on some younger players who can be the future of this club. Mission accomplished, lets get back into Super League competing against the 'big misters' again and becoming one ourselves.

The family of rugby league shown at it's best yesterday. The raising of £12K just shows that the family spirit of our game is as strong as ever. The respect that was shown towards the Whitehaven team was a credit to our club.

100%, and the 'Haven team and fans deserve respect for honouring the spirit of the game and fulfilling the fixture despite overwhelming odds - and in the process holding out against a much superior team for 20 minutes AND scoring a decent try late on. They deserve the respect shown to them at the ground and, I'm told, by the many fans of other clubs who bought tickets with no intention of turning up for the game.

If we watch somebody like Thomas Doyle who has come on leaps and bounds. Yes it is nice to have the luxury of a big pack, full time team etc etc but a lot of younger players are developing well.
Injuries are all part of rugby league and the experience some players are getting now might be very useful in the future
