| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"Beckham offers a lot. 1 - He's mega fit. 2 - He bring a whole new dimension to the plate commercially. 3 - He's still a very, very good player.
England are still too naive to win anything.'"
What dimension does he bring? He can cross the ball exceptionally well but other than that, I don't really see, footballing-wise, what he'll bring, we're not even lacking crossing ability IMO.
For me, you just need more from your wide players at the highest level. He's got bags of passing/crossing ability, but he has no pace, no skill and he's very predictable. He'd be useful to have if we're chasing a game, flooding the box and we need crosses pumped in, but for games like tonight where we'll be counter-attacking and breaking at speed, he'd be pretty useless IMO.

| Great performance by England with and without the ball. Beckham will go to the WC and deserves too, provided he gets a move to a European club which he will as he has offers from Milan and the PL.

From the right hand side in open play we are. Lennon and SWP's final ball in is usually $h1te....

What about Glen Johnson's?
I'd be interested to see the amount of assists he's had for England. Lennon's cross for Gerrard's goal last night was as good as anything Beckham could produce. As said, if we're chasing games and need it pumping in the box, Beckham will probably be looked to, but when we're cruising against sides and we have some fine young talent waiting in the wings for games, why should a player continue to steal caps?
What has Beckham proven in these 10 minutes that nobody else knew?

| England play great football and Michael Shields gets released in the same day. It's all too much for some on here.

The new evidence is what straw had 'been coming out with' all day, if you bothered to look. He said since July it has been brought to his attention that two members of the Shields family and others went to Sankey's house and he confessed to the offence. In light of this Straw has granted a pardon.'"
Sorry to come back to this fella, but earlier in the thread it was eluded to that there was other eveidence other than the confession. If the fact is that the "confession" is the reason of the pardon, then it is frankly, laughable.

I agree with what your saying. But when you look at the options they have - Lennon, SWP, Walcott - they're all quite similar. What would be the point in taken 3 players who do the same thing? Beckham offers Capello some variety.

| Fantastic England.
Cracking atmosphere in the pub.
Glen Johnson & Aaron Lennon were fantastic. Midfield was the key at the end of the day.
Rooney and Heskey seemed rather poor to me though. Should've started with Jermaine.

| In reality now, Beckham is 4th choice on the right and I'd say about 6th choice to start in the middle. It's a tough call because on those stats, he shouldn't be going to the World Cup. However, as someone stated earlier on, he offers something a little bit different than any of the 3 ahead of him for the right wing berth. PLus, he's been around the World Cup scene before, and can be like a father figure to the younger lads going. Whether that's a good thing or not, I'm not sure.

Portugal probably won't be there as it stands, so no.
It'll be Spain instead.
