As a previous poster stated, it was on sky sports news the other day, why would I make it up?

Owen 29%
Berbatov 20%
Torres 18%
Ronaldo 15%
Gerrard 16%
Rooney 14%

Those figures are pretty close to what it was, I know the top 3 were correct. Now calm down and stop getting excited.

He was also the top scorer in La Liga by goals/minutes played. sourcehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Owen

Owen moved to Real Madrid for £8 million in mid-2004 but was frequently used as a substitute. In spite of this, he scored 13 goals in La Liga and had the season's highest ratio of goals scored to number of minutes played.

But TBH it's a qualification similar to Liverpool's "50 reasons to be happy despite not winning the title when we should have."

In itself the signing of Owen has lots of justification. But compared to the expectation of practically every MUFC supporter before the transfer window this is a seriously underwhelming signing.

I wasn't suggesting that you had made it up, and I'm not getting excited. All I asked for was the source and some justification. So it's Sky Sports - hardly the Bible of sporting statistics is it? Ronaldo 15%?

The figure quoted is specious nonsense. What period does it cover? How many were deflections off his àrse? What does that work out at £ per goal? How many days did he spend at the racecourse? What is his goals per helicopter hours ratio? Or his goals to distraught Geordies quotient?

The fact is that, in your usual blinkered fashion, you have jumped on that statistic purely because he has joined United. Anywhere else you would have pooh-poohed it.

I have no axe to grind with either United or Liverpool, just the attitude of some supporters who behave as if they actually play for the team, or think they're a 'better' supporter because they follow a/the top team. That really is beyond the pale.

I don't know about signing him, but after seeing the "Brand values", "current sponsor family" and "global appeal" I hope someone shoots the ****.

It makes me puke when stupid marketing fools from clubs talk about brand values, but seeing it about a player is even worse.

Exactly the same scenario with us Rob, which was my original point. Anyhow the stat just proves Michael(statistically) is the best finisher in the premiership.

I'm sure Kris Boyd is one of the top finishers in Europe by percentages, shame he's sh*t.

I wonder if Fergie will snap up Heskey for the dream partnership?

Another poor attempt at being amusing billy boy, saying that at least some of your post contained something football related, I responded to the stat as somebody mentioned his number of chances, this proves that he doesn't need alot to score, nobody on here think's they're a better supporter as you say, although people who go regularly tend to have more sensible and balanced views than "live sport here" crew. The stat was provided by OPTA as well, but of course you'd have known that surely? So I guess that make's it pretty accurate.

Just been watching SSN for a bit.

Chelsea sign Zhirkov. Quite a good player, better winger than full back.

Also just read along the bottom that Bordeaux have said United are the favourites to sign Gabriel Obertan, or something along those lines, I've heard he's very good, but I've yet to see him play.

Obertan can't be that good, his club loaned him out last season. It seems we are not in the market for big signings the way this transfer window is going. Obertan, Nani and Tosic, not sure about any of them, on the other hand we could make a move for David Silva.

Michael Owen has been allocated his squad number - it's 999.
