You think? Tournament play basically revolves around getting all your money in first and then hoping your hand stands up. The best players can easily go out of a tournament through bad luck. Cash games are more about maximising your profit on each hand IMO and the better players will usually come out on top.

My biggest gripe is when you go round to a game of live poker with mates, and fair enough it might onlu be a tenner in etc, but what annoys me is when you get the majority of the table giving the old 'no we are not putting the blinds up yet'

What!!!! We've been playing for 2 hours!!!!

I hate to be be the one to take a gloss over tunes, beer and good times, but i hate it when people dont want the blinds raising at regular intervals

The raising of the blinds at a regulated times is JUST as important as the order in which hands win pots.

There, glad i got that off my chest.

In our poker league the blinds go up every 10 hands. If the blinds stay small the game will last for weeks!! The only way you get big pots is if 2 players hit the flop.

exactly, My play is based more on taking blinds from bluffs then hiting good cards, I would not try and steal the pot if the blinds are not worth taking, hence waiting for premium hands only.

Spot on, plus playing tight early helps your late game image. People see you as someone who is only willing to put your chips in with premium hands. Online i only get involved early with AQ or AK and the premium pockets. Do sneak the odd cheap call with suited connectors in late position in there every so often. In real life games im a lot looser though, mainly cos most of my mates are very poor at reading bluffs and perpetuating their own. Can't remember who said it but bluffs are like a story, they need a beginning middle and an end, you can't rush em

Decent point towards the end, but i disagree about 'getting your money in first' in a torny and hoping it stands up. Its all about survival in a tourny and winning the right pots. yes there is luck involves but no more than a cash game.

Just like the better players will prevale over a period in a cash game, so will the players over several tournies in the long run

I see where you are coming from but in a tournament situation you do get some muppets who will go all-in and get lucky simply because they think they are not playing with real money and are prepared to risk it. If they had say £200 of their money sat in front of them they wouldn't do it.

in tourney play i have been known to fold aces pre flop as not getting involved would cement my top 3 place, last night i was playing a £10 6 player double up game and 4 people left, two guys over 3k each me and other player have 900 blinds are 400 and 200.

so two short stacks fold chip leader raises all in (with ak suited)
And 2nd chip leader calls with pocket queens.

Now with the blinds so high me and other player would have to have doubled up pretty soon and taken a chance with i.e rag ace.

So my point is tourney play is not about getting your money in first and hoping it comes through there is a lot more skill managing positions, blinds, etc imo

What do we all play on?

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to run a private tourney on a site for rlfans?

If we got a few players together then yes. Even if it was just £5 buy in it would be fun and there would be bragging right at stake.

I play on Full Tilt mainly but also have PKR and Victor Chandler accounts.
