TBH mate, the way the club have supported Shields through the whole saga - some of which was blatently wrong - has brought it to the fore. A football club getting involved in a legal case is going to stir some emotions from opposing fans.

If the evidence supports Shields release then fair enough.

Just hope the scousers don't embarrass themselves by giving him a heros welcome then parading him around the pitch at their next home game etc......

The main reason that Jack Straw has released Shields is that Shields' family told him that Sankey confessed to them right when the trial started in Bulgaria. The Bulgarians wouldn't accept such a bull5hit confession, that's the "new evidence" whish Straw is acting upon.

It's just a good job that accused criminals don't have families willing to back them up, otherwise there'd never be any convictions in this country.

Whether Shields is innocent or not I don't know. I do know that Jack Straw's explnation of his decision is pathetically weak though.
