I know you hate Citeh but can You not see the carnage They will cause next season, scouse not in Cl ,Utd skint, Arsenal cannot spend a dime Abramovich saying enough is enough. I for one hope Spurs (do not think it will happen) get 4th. Premier League just becoming a four team league next year 3 team league in 2011 2 team in 2012 etc. Really worried money killing the game quicker than I thought would happen
I don't hate Citeh. I've got no problem at all with Citeh. What I have a problem with is one idiot Citeh fan who used to talk schitt about Chelsea and has conveniently forgotten his Wenger-like obsession with bringing kids through being more important than a billionaire-funded title chase.
I think Citeh getting the 4th spot makes their progression more likely. I think their CL qualification would help, but I also think they could progress at the same rate without CL qualification if the Sheikh throws even more money at the club.
Before Chelsea won their first title there was talk that money was ruining football. There were many calls for salary caps when Chelsea were top. Those calls for a salary cap ended when Man Utd took the title. Nobody wants a salary cap right now, even though Manchester United could win their 4th title in a row. There's just something retarded about that for me. The richest, most powerful club in the country can win 4 titles in a row and nobody minds (and I think it's something like 7/10), but a couple of clubs have billionaires who can erase that advantage and suddenly football's being killed? It's a load of bull for me.
Citeh have probably spent £500m to reach 4th. They could spend another £500m and still not win the league or win the CL. People assume that the Sheikh's funding is endless, but that doesn't mean it's true. The Sheikh could decide to stop funding Citeh in the same was as Abramovich has done.
The billionaires who are willing to fund their sides do distort competition. But so does the CL. Throughout Europe the leagues are pretty much divided between the sides that qualify for the CL separated from the clubs who cannot afford to compete. Most of the sides at the top of every league are the traditional mega sides who hoover up all the glory support from their country. Having massive clubs like Real, Barca, AC Milan, Juve, Manchester United dominate their leagues is all fine and dandy, but clubs having someone willing to invest heavily to equip them to compete is killing the game? Get real. It's absolute nonsense set up to protect the richest sides from having someone else even more powerful than them.
