Has the love affair the Gooners have for Arsene Wenger becoming a bit strained. Another trophyless season looms and some mystifying substitutions at times. Champions league football seems far off for next season.
I think Wenger is in a similar position to David Moyes at Everton.....Both highly respected and seen as untouchable by people OUTSIDE the clubs, but both rapidly losing the faith and patience of the fans on the inside.
Similarly, both have definitely had their 'peak' years and both are living on past reputations, while managing sides who are a pale shadow of sides they have built in the past.
As an Evertonian, I really would like to see Moyes go....I've never been a big fan - I'm grateful for the stability he gave us after years of turmoil, but his style of football as always been dire. Those who claim nobody could do better are seriously deluded.
Wenger does have a good record to fall back on, but for years he has been treading water, unearthing the odd decent young player, but for all the promise, none of his great young sides ever seem to mature into the real thing....Personally, I think he could do a lot worse than resigning gracefully at the end of the year, then applying to take the England job...If he couldn't build a decent, footballing side, then I think we could be fairly certain that nobody could fix England.
