How does anybody watch football with Ray Wilkins as a commentator? The fella is an absolute cretin. I watched some of the Newcastle game on my break in work today, I just so happened to walk in when Cabaye was injured in that tackle. Wilkins would not shut up, he kept saying "it's a foul, get on with it". Then he seen that it was a studs up foul to the ankle, and it was "it's a foul, yellow card, no more, get on with it.". Then, after every foul, every appeal, it was "get on with it, the game must go on.". Cabaye was injured in a challenge where his ankle was on the receiving end of a studs up lunge, and all Ray Wilkins could do was whinge at Cabaye for not getting on with it. When he went off injured, he was silent until the next foul, which was met with "get on with it". After Cabaye went off, a matter of 10 seconds was wasted waiting for Newcastle's sub to come on, Wilkins was ranting and raving, he couldn't believe that a sub wasn't ready by the time Cabaye had gone off, he couldn't understand what the players were doing. I wonder, has Ray ever considered a 'warm up'? Has Ray ever considered that a player might not have his kit ready, I mean, how often do teams make first half subs?
I ask, does anybody remember when Wilkins was Chelsea AM, does anybody remember Wilkins shouting to Drogba "get on with it!" when Didier used to waste 20 minutes a game lay on the floor feigning injury? Remember when Cech fractured his skull, do you reckon Wilkins sat at home shouting "GET ON WITH IT!!!" to the TV?
Sky seem to persist with putting absolute cretins on as 'pundits' because they can speak well. Wilkins consistently spouts bile, every point he makes is usually a stereotyped point with little basis. He always says the most obvious things like "Liverpool need to score a goal soon if they want to get back into the game", or "Liverpool need to get the scores level, then they need to try and take the lead, if they don't, it's likely they'll end up with a draw or getting beat, because this side have been good opposition today". My God, the fella is an absolute cretin.
Maybe it's an intentional ploy to get a reaction from viewers and get fans talking about Sky Sports and the games they show.
Not really, most of Sky's viewers probably agree with Wilkins. They probably sit back and go "bloody foreigners, get up ya softy!". I just found it odd that he was going on this crazy "get on with it" rant, even when a player was clearly injured.

I take it you didn't see Cabaye get straight up after the foul, give Derry a shove, then fall back to the ground with his hands on his face?

The ability to stand up doesn't mean a player isn't injured. Didn't Nani get up and shove Carragher last year when his shin was split wide open? The adrenaline/anger probably forced Cabaye to get up and shove him, but maybe the actual pain of the injury kicked in when he stood up. If he wasn't injured, he wouldn't have gone off, whether he got up beforehand is irrelevant, and for Wilkins to continue with the 'get on with it' crap, even after a player had just gone off injured, shown him up to be the cretin he is.

you're right Ray isn't the most charismatic of pundits and sounds completely out of his depth and ,indeed naiive at times - he's not the only one with Alan Smith & Chris Waddle up there with him however,
'does anyone remember when Wilkins was Chelsea..' Yes,I remember Butch Wilkins at Chelsea when he was one of the most sought after midfielders in europe - watched him many times as a player for Chelsea & United & England when he had to be sold to pay for the financial misdealings of Ken Bates in the bad old days of relegation at The Bridge etc. Give the guy some credit ! he's been there, one it,and got the England T shirt dozens of times so knows his stuff,he's just inept on the telly an unable to put his views across in any coherant or entertaining manner - it doesn't make him a 'cretin' ! he's forgotten more about about football than the likes of us will ever know.
