Liverpool fans delighted to be half way to the final of a tournament that no big team really gives a toss about after about 75 minutes of playing anti-football.
How times have changed. Still, that pretty much says it all.
I can't wait - like, I'll be refreshing my 'view your posts' page every 10 seconds - for EE's response to Liverpool's 1-0 at City. I was working 'til 10 so didn't get to see it, but from all accounts, it seems we got a 1-0, sat on it and played disgustingly for 45 minutes. If so, I know full well he'll be sat there venting, reading posts about Liverpool fans on bluemoon and generally looking to display as much bitterness and vitriol as possible.
I got to see the penalty, but only seen one replay and it was a brief glimpse. When Savic made contact with Agger, was it on he knee and was it with his studs?
You pretty much summed it up there.....City were poor and lacking in ideas, Liverpool were efficient and deserved the win, the penalty was nailed on.
Only complaint from City fans could be Glen Johnson staying on the pitch....By the letter of the law that saw Kompany banned for 4 games, Johnson should have been red carded....Was definitely a poorer tackle than the one Kompany 'inflicted' on Nani.
Easily City's worst performance of the season so 0-1 isnt too bad for us, will make for an interesting 2nd leg.
We dont need more players but we could do with a better mix of centre backs. Lescott, Kolo Toure, Savic, Onuoha and Boyata are all better suited to playing alongside Kompany than they are at taking his place. They're all "6's" rather than "5's". The Lescot-Kolo partnership has never looked solid and Savic-Lescott looks worse. It looks like Onuoha will be leaving and Kolo seems to be interesting PSG. I'd offload them and bring in a more physical player as Kompany's back up. Surprised we aren't in for Samba.

it was probably an equal tackle to kompanys (and that was also not a red card or even a foul, took the ball fair and square). still, you get some decisions that go for you and also against you.
Widnes will be glad to get away from Leigh. They've been regularly pumped, roasted and left in the alley-way by the lobbygobblers. Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.

Obsessed much?
Last night's performance took me back to Gerard Houllier days. Not pretty, but they got half the job done.
Not sure what to make of the 2nd leg. Will Liverpool go for it or sit back? Can see City winning tbh.

The stiffs got us through most of the rounds, local pride made Fergie shut the neighbours up. Only really played a proper team if we got to the semi's. Liverpool have put all their eggs in the basket from the start. To be honest, it's the kind of trophy they should be looking at. Don't play european football, have a chance at Europa through finishing 5th or 6th and should have a chance at the FA cup should they pull off a giant killing and knock us out. That's the romance of the FA cup, the mid-table sides can get themselves up for a few games and get a sniff at a final. Cardiff, Portsmouth are just two of these lesser clubs that have done it recently. Show's it can be done, gives Liverpool a great chance for thei first silverware of the decade and first appearance at Wembley since 1996.
Surprised little has been said about Gerrard putting Mancini in his place. I thought Mancini was going to start crying, he didn't know what to say, he was just stuttering "yes, yes". Absolutely laughable, I wish there was video content of Mancini bricking it, this coming a matter of days after Manchester teaboy Daniel Taylor wrote a profile discussing things like his fiery character and uncompromising personality, harping on about how confrontational he was as a player and takes no nonsense as a manager. Seemed well in his place last night to me.

It was actually quite good that. Looked like Rafa back in the day when trying to reel of facts. I miss Rafa, at least he had an element of class about him.
