Started a new game as AZ in Holland. Currently 2 points clear at the top after an away win at previous leaders PSV. I've promised the title so I have to deliver. Unfortunately I went out of the Champions League quite meekly. My squad is incredibly versatile, but the players I bring in are mainly English Championship standard. Hoping to bring Daniel De Ridder back to Holland as he's on the fringes at Wigan, which is an indication of the kind of player I have to go for. A good technique and first touch are the main thing for the style I'm playing. I'm concentrating on making a profit in the transfer market by allowing my better players to go to bigger clubs when the opportunity arises.

Things are looking good at Tottenham. I promised a continental finish through the league, and i am well on course for that, and i am pushing very hard for Champions League. I'm currently sitting in 5th place but only 4 points behind 2nd. Its very tight, and i've also just beat Liverpool over 2 legs to go through to the league cup final. So far so good.

I've just accepted a bid of £10.75million for Corluka as he was unhappy and wanted a move, so i accepted and brought in Srna to replace him at right back, so a very reasonable replacement and also just as versatile. I am hoping to kick on and snatch 4th place, but the main aim is to guarentee finishing 5th, anything below that would be classed as unacceptable, but that looks more than likely at the minute.

Re: Football Manager 2010 : Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:32 pm
I'm terribly confused. I won the league with Arsenal  and ended up with a £72m budget for the next season. I spent £29m on three defenders buying the replacements for Sagna, Clichy and Senderos (When they get too old in a season or too) and spent £28m on Wayne Rooney. I had spent six or so years bumming him up in the press and with Man United in mid table with a terrible squad I bid £28m for him. Bobby Charlton said it was too good to turn down and Rooney jumped at the chance, mentioning his desire to work with me in the press.

I look at the job security screen after an unbeaten start to the season and see I've got a status of 'under review'. Turns out the fans are 'devestated' that I signed Wayne Rooney and incensed by the decision to sell Alexandre Song to Chelsea for £7.5m. Rooney (Still only 27) has a CA of 184, fourth in the list of the best players in the world. Song has a CA of 139.

Why? Just why? Are you telling me that if Arsenal signed Wayne Rooney their fans would want their manager out?

Because Footy Manager likes to be daft. Take my Wigan game. I'm in a relegation scrap but still got offered the Ivory Coast job for the World Cup with no experience or an ability to speak french. Extremely frustrating for my team at the moment. I'm playing very well created between 5 and 7 clear cut chances per game but I'm lucky if my strikers take one. Rodallega is incredibly frustrating and will be gone in the summer if I'm still there. Yes he is fast but by christ he misses some chances!

When you're a Bradford fan there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Unfortunately it's usually an oncoming train

Re: Football Manager 2010 : Tue Feb 09, 2010 6:34 pm
Started a new game as West Ham. No transfer budget, regardless of what option I took regarding league performance. So I figured I'd take top half finish. No sense going for undue pressure on myself. Got Sol Campbell & Mark Viduka on free transfers. Loaned Paul Codrea from Siena til the end of the season. Sold Jack Collison to Liverpool for £5 million with clauses that could take it to £10 million. Sold Nigel Quashie to QPR for £775k.

Looking at bringing in 1 or 2 more players before the end of Aug. Looking at Tobias Linderoth from Galatasaray.

Currently 7th in the league after 2 games. Drew against Man Utd 1-1 and beat Burnley 2-0. Did look at Van Nistelroy as Real want rid and are offering him for free. However, he wanted over £100k a week and my wage budget won't stretch that far, and even if it did I wouldn't spend that on a player of his age

Re: Football Manager 2010 : Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:33 pm
Managed to win the league cup beating United 4-2 on penalties. It was 0-0 after full time, then Berbatov scored after 112 minutes, and was miles offside, however the goal scored despite my players complaining to the lines man. Then Defoe banged one in for me after 117 minutes to bring it back 1-1, and then onto penalties. Great win and the boards and fans were very happy.

Also, i'm not sitting 4 points clear of Arsenal in 4th place on the same games, with only 9 league games to go, so i would say i am now fravourite for 4th place, although i have to play Arsenal away and Chelsea away, the Arsenal game is massive because i could then afford to lose to Chelsea if i beat Arsenal. Even if i finish 5th, it will have been a very successful season with the media predicting me to finish 8th and win nothing, although i backed myself and chose a continental finish and 5th would do that. I want Champions League obviously. I'm also in the 6th round of the FA cup, playing Fulham so i should win that, although they have beat me once this season, but the board wanted me to reach the 6th round, anything else is a bonus.

I can also see a bit of a clear out in the summer transfer window, as i don't need both Bentley and Lennon so one of them will be going, and so far Bentley has been performing slightly better, however, i intend to sign a top right winger so they will only be back up but not made any decisions, concentrating on this season first.

There really aren't many better than Lennon on the game. I bet there are other areas of the team you would be better focusing on.

I'm struggling to get him playing well to be honest. Hes also really struggling to force his way into the England side, having missed out on the last 5 squad selections. Maybe i'm not using him right, i don't know but so far he's not impressed me. I've got him winger attacking, i would have thought that's what he would have been best at. TBH, Bentley hasn't been an awful lot better, so it's going to be a tough decision, but i don't need both of them.

Changed my mind. Can't wait for the patch to come through as all my players are after doing one.

Good team but slightly overpaid for Dzeko, I usually pick him up for 5m upfront + 20m over 48 months, I'd also look into Neuer/Lloris/Akinfeev because VDS wont last too long.

Kadlec is also a brilliant buy, young striker got 57 goals for me in his first season at Rangers along with 30 assists.

Got Neuer for £25m but he knocked me back saying he didn't want to leave Shalke. They wanted £51m at one point, same with Akinfeev. Ended up with Frey. Got him for £15m + Kuszack. Not bad business.

Kadlec. 3 league sub appearances and 2 goals. Got him for £3.6, breaking him into the squad gently, he's started a cup match but thats it. Looking good :thumb:
