I have a sneaking suspicion they're sticking up for him because of the cloudiness of the issue (the whole cultural differences etc etc), i reckon if Suarez had just said something along the lines of 'Evra, you stupid f**king ni**er', they may have been less likely to stand up for him for fear of looking stupid and condoning his remarks. Of course i'd like to think that's the case anyway.....

It is the case, sort of. I said at the start, as soon as Evra made the allegations, if it's proven Suarez actually abused him during the game, then I'd willingly accept a ban towards him for the rest of the season. I said at the time, if it comes out that Suarez has gone "n****r" ten+ times to him during the game, I probably wouldn't want to see him play for us again. However, according to the reports that have come out on it, a word has been used once, something Suarez has admitted to, but he hasn't admitted to racism, something a lot of people seem to think has happened. For me, Suarez's defence on cultural/language differences is an acceptable one to a certain degree. I don't think he should be found completely innocent as it sets the wrong precedent and they do have to punish Suarez, even if it was a mistake/accident/mix up. However, the punishment given, for me anyway, is all wrong. It should have been guilty for 'potentially racist language', and he should have received a match ban and a fine, with a suspended ban of 10 games or whatever if it happens again. It's been said that Evra has said he doesn't believe Suarez is racist, and apparently the FA have said the same thing, just he was guilty of using racist language, but the tag still sticks and people like Mark think he's in the klan.
It's been mentioned in these reports that Evra referred to Suarez as a 'South American', but that too is racist and, from what I've been reading, it's more offensive in South America to mention somebody's country/region than it is to mention colour. So, if it's true that Evra has admitted calling him that, I can't understand why they would choose to ignore it.

I think discriminating along the lines of country of origin isn't deemed as serious as discriminating on the grounds of skin colour, in this country... but there again is a difference of culture.. so what/where is the cut-off point? It's probably well noted on here that i'm no Liverpool fan, in fact i despise Liverpool and everything to do with them, but there's a small part of me that understands why they'll stand up for him in this case.
Not a fan of the whole t-shirt campaign though, i think that's rather crass.
To all of the Suarez apologists on here and anywhere else, he hasn't been charged or found guilty of "being a racist"whatever that actually entails. He's been found guilty of the following, taken from the FA statement of the time...
An FA statement said: "It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules. It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra".
So a) he was never charged with being racist and b) whatever he's been found guilty of saying is contrary to FA rules meaning the cultural differences argument holds no water.
Loving the Liverpool statement proclaiming in one sentence that Evra's accusation/evidence isn't credible as he has a history of it (which we all know is untrue) but then saying in the very next sentence that Suarez isn't racist because Evra said he wasn't!! Comedy gold.
“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”
Why wasn't it reported back in October?. Much of the nation? Most of Ireland and Norway you mean. Why can't LFC fans just accept it? instead of sliding into the blameless pit. Embarassing themselves time after time. Grief Junkies
So true....Nothing, nothing at all, is ever their fault......Heysel, Hillsborough, now this....It seems to be a habit they have, that when they are accused of something, they come out snarling and it isn't very pretty....
