Widnes will be glad to get away from Leigh. They've been regularly pumped, roasted and left in the alley-way by the lobbygobblers. Talk about being bitched - what a torrid time they've had. They'll be looking for some A&E rest time for the next three years at least.
nah mate, wrong as usual - my team last won the league in the early 60s when we did the double (remind me when LFC last did the double)
Apologies for the mistake, though I'm not sure why you say "wrong as usual".

difference between the average THFC fan is that they know their place in the pecking order ie top 8 at best with anything else a bonus, just a pity Mr Levy can't see that..his delusions of grandeur are truly amazing
I'm sure not all LFC fans think that they have a god given right to be up there (though I know a few do). I believe in one of my previous posts a while ago I said that we wouldn't win the league for 10 years + and I still stand by that.

but what is the point in trying to reply to a post by comparing my team to yours ? I consider LFC as a massive club, bigger than THFC and a club that has my total respect - some of your teams have been awesome since the mid 60s when I started watching top level football on a saturday afternoon.
To be fair, the original argument was down to the "living in the past" comment, nothing about comparisons of teams. We had a period where we were the biggest team in England, quite possibly in Europe and the world, but those days are gone now. If you really want a comparison of our teams, recent history shows that you've had the better of us in the PL over the last 5 years and we've won 1 trophy each.

my remarks are not made to offend LFC fans so there's no need to show the cardinal weakness by trying to deflect from the subject by comparing teams like for like - my point is simple, a once great club is struggling with a generally weak squad with a decent young coach trying to build around three good players - all the best teams i've witnesses over the years have had at least 5 or 6 top quality players with good players around them - in the present LFC scenario as I see it you have an ageing Gerrard, Suarez & Reina with the rest mediocre to not bad
I wouldn't say it's a cardinal weakness, it's just natural to want to defend the club that you support. And yes, it's not been the best season so far, in fact it's not been the best of seasons for a good while now. I've always said that Rogers isn't the man for the job but i'm willing to give him a chance to see if he can turn it around. At the moment though, he's not convincing me much.

apologies for the 'wrong as usual' comment - it was not fair
I'm not an AVB basher, ok well I am tho' I want him to succeed for the sake of the team but he just doesn't seem to look the part - at best I was hoping he learned a few things about the Premiership style but earlier games have made me realise he hasn't - I like our style of play when we use our pace - we miss B AE down the left and Perker midfield and I can't see us getting any better than 6th though i'm pessimistically going for 8th this season
now if AVB was to get the plot then we may actually compete for 3rd or 4th with a full strength squad and Premiership tactics - we can only live in hope - i'm still baffled why Levy sacked Martin Jol !
as for Rogers - well, I like his pedigree tho' maybe more 'assistant coaching at CFC à la Steve Clark would have been more advisable than swanning off to Watford (I stand corrected) and going it alone - he has something about him but whether LFC will give him the time is another matter
I love the way Hughton has gone through the ranks, assisting at THFC etc and i'm really hoping he will one day end up at WHL which is where he belongs IMO - interesting to see Steffan Freund on the bench, I would love to know his influence in the dressing room ?
A 64 team 'Champion's' league with up to 7 English clubs?
Farcical.....Just going to lead to further 'unworthy' winners in future years....No disrespect, but the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool were not the best side in Europe when they won the title in recent years, and surely a European Champions Cup should be about finding the best side, not a underdog who scraped into the competition by a 3rd or 4th place domestic finish, getting lucky?

Totally agree. Also, looking at it from another angle, it would also mean teams who have an isolated standout season ending up in the pot and likely being whipping boys. Fulham and Newcastle in recent years have finished inside the top 7 and then struggled the next year, the supposed premier european competition is not the place for them on the back of one good season.
And that's assuming qualification would be on the basis of league position. If the Europa League is to make way for it we may well still see the cup and Intertoto routes into it, which offers a frightening thought: Stoke in the Champion's League. Are the likes of Dean Whitehead and Robert Huth kicking lumps out Xavi and Lionel Messi, punctuated by Rory Delap long throws really what we want to be seeing in Europe's elite club competition?

Clearly you want football to introduce voting so that sides like Chelsea can't knock out sides like Barca by the ridiculous means of actually scoring more goals than them?
What about Man United scoring two late goals to win in injury time against Bayern? Surely that shouldn't be allowed either. If you're not the better team in the 90 minutes then you shouldn't get the trophy, obviously.
There are many issues surrounding an expansion of the CL. "Unworthy winners" isn't one of them.

I have no problems with them expanding the competition and going back to the old name of the European Cup with the winners being crowned "European Cup Winners" as opposed to "European Champions". IMO you cannot win a competition entitled "The CHAMPIONS League" and proclaim to be the "Champions of Europe" if you're not even Champions of your own league and in some cases finished 4th. It's almost as laughable as a team finishing 8th being the Champions. Yes you all know the rules at the start but if RL came up with that type of concept people would laugh their t*ts off at it. FFS, in Rugby Union you get into the Heineken Cup if you can down a pint in 60 seconds.
What they could do is have a semi final with the Champions of England, Spain, Italy and Germany (lets face it the other leagues in Europe are crap) to declare a European Champion to enter the Club World Cup etc and have the Champions from all the other Countries enter a European Cup with the teams who finished 2nd-4th in England, Spain, Italy and Germany and those who won their respective cup competition (basically a mix of the current "Champions" and Europa Leagues)
A team who finishes 7th in their league should in no way shape or form enter any competition with the word "Champions" in it. It's getting laughable.
