You are surely taking the p1$$? Its going nowhere near his face. Even if it was going near his face that doesn't mean it wouldn't have glanced off his head and still gone in. Which is exactly why he "saved" it. Its the most blatant of red cards I've ever seen. To say he didn't deny a goalscoring opportunity is crackpottery of the highest order.

I get the feeling he was using the argument as some sort of bizarre justification for not bringing in goal-line technology.

Exactly my thinking. The term used was actually video technology. But if it is brought in, I think it should be just goal-line technology, not a video ref as such.
