Been saying this for months about the FFP. It's nothing other than a ruse to protect the European elite. The Champions League is pretty much a closed shop anyway and the way the FFPs are set now will ensure that it remains that way. If they were serious about FFP they'd introduce a salary cap. They're not so they won't. Also, worth pointing out that Fergie has spent on average something like £23m per season since being coach of United. I haven't worked out what the net spend is before anybody says or taken into account inflation on any of the figures. Just thought it was interesting, although most true United fans accept that's part of the modern game and don't deceive themselves that they are somehow celebrating success that's been morally more pure.
Not suggesting its more pure, if City win it, City deserve it.
I think what does irritate some United fans is the fact is some city fans saying City are just doing what United always have, whilst United have spent plenty (but seldom been top payers even domestically), both under the Edwards family and then as a PLC they were spending money they had actually made. Obviously being a PLC made the club vulnerable to the likes of the Glazers. So obviously it is possible to make a distinction between spending lots of money you have made as a football club / 'brand', and making a loss of £197m (from purely throwing money at something as opposed to Glazer induced debt), whether there is any validity in that argument is another matter as football ownership now is as it is
