The board should butt out. Its nothing to do with them, and I can't see how any ban they give could be upheld. What exactaly would the ban be for?

Amir Khan calling for mandatory drug testing in the lead-up to fights. While no-one can argue with that, while the possibility of any Tom, Dick or Don King setting up their own sanctioning body exists, he has no chance.

Oh look, I've just set up the World Boxing Institution. Right, off to sanction a fight between two of the most synthetic-testosterone enhanced fighters I can find. As long as they pay the sanctioning fee, who cares?

Well if a body does set itself up with the mandatory drug testing the others will have to follow because they'll set a new reliable standard. If one body does they'll all have to do it otherwise the public won't buy it.

I'd like to think you're right, but I will believe it when I see it and not a moment before. After all, the IBO with it's transparent ranking system hasn't forced the other more established organisations into developing similar systems. And if they're indifferent as to who a mandatory challenger is, how can we rely on them for anything else?

I know what you're saying but drugs testing is not an issue that an organisation can ignore if other organisations are doing it because the boxers themselves would make it an agenda issue i.e. if you're a good boxer why would you run the risk of facing a potentially juiced up opponent with ABC when XYZ organisation drugs tests all their fighters before fights. If you're desperate for fights that may happen but all it would take is a few leading boxers to start siding in support and you've got a win because money will dictate it.

In prep for tonight, article from SI about David Price - Is this the man who could finally dethrone Wladimir Klitschko?

Will be interesting to see him progress.

That uppercut in the 4th was a peach....... His right hand just seems like a lethal weapon. Good stiff jab too.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

Re: Boxing Round 2 : Sat May 19, 2012 11:20 pm
Price is a real talent....Would love to see him take on Fury, just to see him hammer the fellow. However, I think Fury and his management won't want to come within a million miles of sharing a ring with Price, because they realise that will be an abrupt end to any ambitions that they hold in the Heavyweight scene.

Some of Price's work tonight was exceptional. The jab looks awesome, and his assortment of power punches is pretty frightening for any potential opponents.....If the straight right doesn't get you, then the uppercut or hook will, and combined with good speed for such a big bloke, he seems to have the full package - There's just the full test of the chin that's needed now. If he comes through that then I don't see anybody stopping him.
