When we were kids ( 11-15) we used to go and play nearly every night at our local green. It was only 20p or something like that to hire out your bowls. We actually got quite good at it and some of us got our own bowls and played for the local team.

It's actually a really good game to play. Much better than that indoor stuff you see at the olympics as you have to take into account the slope and contours of the green.

i used to get the p**s taken out of me at school for playing it as its an 'old mans game' but to be fair the average age on my team is around 35, and there is about 4 players under 18 thats play for my TEAM not my club just my team, everybody says oh its a piece of cake just bowling to the little on but to be fair, its took me 8 years to become county level and it really is a tricky game especially when the greens are running really fast.

I used to play but hated the fact it was on a Monday night. My mother still plays to county level though.

Used to play when I was in my early teens, where my Dad worked had its own green on site and entered a team in a local league. He used to get half a day off work for the game and if I was off school I'd tag along and get a game if they were short.

Grandad on mum's side was a cracking player and a lot of people knew him. I never got to see him play unfortunately as I wasn't alive.

My mum, auntie and uncle all play. I also know a few people in there 20's and 30's who play.
