Seriously a sensible decision - looks like a lot of contracts are being sorted right now, good stuff and makes the future clearer.

Yeah, I would personally have him towards the bottom in terms of hookers in the league but I think it’s a good signing presuming he’s on a sensible wage as he’s very dependable.

Easy decision. We have a cracking prospect at 9 in Brad O’Neill, who has a couple of years now to work alongside and try and take Sam Powell’s place. That position is sorted now for that spell and we can concentrate on other areas.

He's not a world beater but he's the glue that helps keep the team together.

I do get frustrated with at times because I genuinely believe that he could pose more of an attacking threat but I've come to the conclusion that he's playing to instructions rather than unable to play a more attacking game.

I agree I think he is playing,oh and I do hate this term "a wigan way" in the he's the glue for the defence as you say it works I suppose when the speedsters that wigan have are scorching round the field it's all to easy to forget you need a player like Powell doing what he does.

But you don't need a mid table standard player as the guy that distributes the ball/touches the ball the most, If he was moved to 13 then there would be no problem, It says something when Shaun Wane is picking 4/5 hookers in front of him for the England squad

Not every player in the team will be a world beater, but similar to a Jake Bibby type player you need players that get through a load of work, do the tough stuff and are consistent. Powell is one of those, and given that he seems well respected by the squad off the field also it's a no brainer as some have said.

All that's fair enough, just not at Hooker, 1, 6, 7 & 9 should be the best players at the club imo.

Hows having "Marquee" players at 1/6/7/9 for example working at Warrington??? They've had Darryl Clarke there for 5 years or so and gone alarmingly backwards (Whilst individually his performances may "Look" good, does the team benefit?)

Hows having Brad Dwyer at 9 working at Leeds? Hows Having Blake Austin at 6 or when they signed Luke Gale and then offloaded him working for Leeds?

Hows having Superstar Jake Connor or Josh Reynolds & now Luke Gale in those positions etc working out for Hull?



I could go on but won't



Some people lose a game, pick a player and just want to change them and say that will make things better - It's happened at Leeds, it's happened at Warrington and it happens all over the place. People just throw names all over the place as if it's the silver bullet to all the clubs problems.

Others don't



Sam Powell is not Cam Smith, or James Roby, or Cook from Souths etc. etc. etc. - He's Sam Powell

Or maybe it's because he's the Love child of Rads or leneghan - You know these 2? they're the Chief execs and owners/chairman who if you believe the vast majority of the ones criticising Powell are the be all and end all of everything Wrong at Wigan RL and in particular RL in general

I also know them as Owners & Chief Execs under their tenure in the last 13 seasons of the 4 time GF - 3 time CC & World club challenge winners Wigan RL and a Hell of a lot more that they've done & Supported through the years financially and from other aspects point of view.



That mate of yours off the other site spouted abut "More Jobs for the boys", lack of ambition, IL & Rads are awful and get rid of them rubbish when this was announced - yet ignore dozens of other things they do get right.

As always it ignores that without doing the basics, signing the solid dependable players, investing in the Boring stuff that no-one wants to talk about like the scouting & youth systems and others stuff that under pins everything the Headline things like Signing a Bateman, a Tomkins back form the NRL, a Matty Bowen, A Farrell for 13 seasons in a row, a Tommy L back from the NRL, a Jai Field or Bevan French etc. etc. wouldn't be possible.



Truth is - 99% of Fans wouldn't have a clue about running a successful sporting organisation so like to think their input of "Sign him" or "Get rid of him" is their Value added input

The day they start listening to it is the day it'll be time for them to pack in.
