Another thing i'd consider doing if I was in charge would be seeing if Wayne Bennett would be interested in providing some 'remote' consultancy/mentoring to whoever we did sign as Coach

Regarding League Express surprised nobody has mentioned the article in relation to Lam quoting him that he'd love to come back to Wigan and be involved within the coaching staff. The other paper which I forget the name off says that David Fairleigh is are number target to replace Noble as head coach.

Saw it in the evening post about Lam and it made me think he'll be back at Wigan in 2010.

He said he'd love a coaching position either as head coach or as assistant coach. With the rumours that Nobby only wants a 1 year deal i can see Lam coming in as an assistant for next season with a view to taking over for 2011.

It would seem the best way to go if Lenagan is telling the truth and Noble does only want a 1 year deal.

As a head coach i'm not overly sure about Lammy straight away due to a lack of experience and the fact that this club is so different from the one he left behind but given a year to bed in that could solve a few problems.

The one thing Lammy would do is bring the youngsters on and give them plenty of confidence.

From speaking to people inside the club i believe he does only want 1 more year then wanting to work in Australia.

Lam could certainly help young Sam if this comes about i think its best for all the Club wins Lam wins and Noble wins.
Lam also gets 12 months to highlight who he wants out and who he wants in.

With the likes of Phelps,Carmont, Bailey(if both sign one year extensions), Fielden, Feka and Coley all off contract at the end of 2010 there would be alot of leeway for somebody like Lam to build his own squad.

I just hope Lenagan would give him the opportunity to do so.

Wouldn't anyone prefer McGuire to Lam? He's taken charge of the Storm, not Kearney, when Bellamy has been away with Origin.
Lam has been at the Roosters which has fallen apart this last few years.
A reminder too that bringing back a former player, however good, doesn't always work as head coach. I'd go for McGuire with his own asst.

Whichever IL goes for, a new coach now or 2011 the appointment of Noble's successor will have to be made early. IL was non committal over the coaching position at the FF yet said there maybe no new signings for next year. If he still thinks we can go with the same squad and no new players after last Saturday then we are in bigger trouble than we think.

He may of course not be saying anything due to the 1st Sept deadline for British players and not announcing anything re overseas signings until their season is over.

In answer to your first question, yes - I'd much prefer McGuire to Lam.

Lam is too inexperienced to take on an underperforming club like Wigan. We need someone who can take the whole playing operation by the scruff of the neck and send it in a new direction, and we need that person for the start of next year - not at some tenuous future date when Noble feels like applying for another job again, or when someone like Lam has finally learned enough to be taken a chance on.

Has anyone thought we may get both?

Mcguire as head coach and lammy as his right hand man.

Dont know just a thought.

I have heard lam is comming over on a 3 year deal though.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Plus, it would explain the various rumours knocking around.
