Re: Squad for Hudds (a) : Fri May 13, 2022 7:14 am
Credit to huds, they were excellent with the ball in hand. Played some good rugby and thoroughly deserved that win. If they had finished better in the first half we would have been dead and buried by the break.

Rogues was correct re. astley, definately too kick happy. Kicking early in the tackle count when we are chasing the game and haven't earned the right to is not the best. He didn't look ready for the step up tonight, which isn't a bad thing as such he is still only young. Plenty of time to mature yet. I couldn't make the game tonight so had the pleasure of listening to our amazing sky commentary team, they mentioned a couple of times that he come from a union background, previously signed on at sale sharks. Wonder if this could explain the kicking somewhat?

Sharrocks was playing great at loose i thought (his most suited position imo) it's a shame for him that smithies has to take that role atm due to how well he has been playing. I thought he did a better job then previous games also when he moved to hooker, although would still prefer it if we could get o'neill playing full games.

Miski had his best game by far in a wigan shirt, he has received alot of flack in his previous games so far so was nice to see him show abit of something. His carries out of our own half were huge.

Overall performace was pretty poor to be honest, we should have been better with the team that we put out. Hopefully it can just be put down to semi final hangover, Not too concerned about it though and nothing devastating. Onto next week i think we need to play full strength, get some momentum going into the final.

Be interesting to see what hudds do next week as we have Toulouse at home. Resting players immediately the game before a final has backfired with many teams before. I suspect Watson will put out a strong squad bar probably McQueen and ikahihifo who are recovering from injury, and if it looks as if we are winning comfortably carefully rotate the forwards and take off key spine players such as Levi and fages / lolohea to prevent injury in the second half.

Makes a change from the talk of every team having injuries whilst we crack on missing our entire back line and half our pack.

Does he not rest the players that played last night and bring back the ones he rested? That way most of your 17 have had 1 week of rest and 1 week of game time.

The Wire result on Saturday may have an impact on what he decides with you now having a cushion over them.

Yeah agree with all that. It means nothing in the grand scheme, was just strange how all the talk was of who wigan had missing. Even read a few comments about it being a decent result for Wigan all things considered, which is a strange take in my eyes.
Virtually their full starting pack missing tonight and yet they had all the field position, certainly in the first half. Expected more from Singleton, Ellis, Partington.

Nicholson looks handy though, good debut from him.

It can always be debated which players were missed more but, at the end of the day, we had 11 players out tonight and don't forget an 'injury crisis' is 5 according to you. That's a double injury crisis plus one we had to deal with ;)

Haha I've literally never said that.

No doubting Wigan had more missing last night, was just making a point that Huddersfield's absences seemed to be overlooked by the SKY lot that's all.

Overall a pretty poor performance. Passing poor and didn't respect possession. Kicked twice on 2nd tackle ffs. Wide defence a joke - just give em free run ins. Yet could've sneaked it.
Gonna play a second team again next week and lose again? Should've tried to put Hudds to the sword and rested a few next week. Get a niggle next week and less time to heal.
Only plus point is that Halsall and Nicholson showed up well.

Mc Donnell played well also. Some of the lines he ran and the dents he put in the defence were impressive for his age. He put both Partington and Isa to shame.

3 players there that with another season under their belt should hopefully be knocking on for first team rugby.

Pfft we had 16 out against a more or less full strength Cas and lost by a similar margin......

Maybe we have better strength in depth after all :ROCKS:

Think a few of those 16 lads will be out again after tonight’s game. FC I’d say have the best forwards in SL. Walmsley is off the boil, the rest of your forward bar Passi hardly make a dint. You have a one armed Lomax and Makinson who seem to be carrying a knock
