It does take some time to kill a persons creative ability and adventure to try and score try's so I can understand the move.
we have to remember that Joel is their Gelling.
He's raw, signed a long-term deal and was never anticipated to do more than learn the game for a season. Therefore judgement should be reserved until the end of year 2. From Joel's perspective he also knows its a long slog, and if he wants to get an England cap he's got to start from the bottom. It will take time, especially as he is a convert in both code and position.
I'd be very surprised if either party were giving up on it after such a short time
