Not too sure what Wane's role actually is. Sounds like he's essentially a supervisor. I imagine a priority when planning this would be to establish firm boundaries.

Maguire was widely regarded as the best NRL assistant and ready for the next step (he even coached Melbourne when Bellamy when on State of Origin duty) and was exactly what we needed to shake things up. For me we are at the same point when the club needs a new rocket up its collective backside.

Wane was groomed to be Maguire successor and was part of the vast improvements that Maguire instilled from day one, I'm not sure Peet has had that over he last three years with Lam.

Did he not get all of that under Wane the first time? Or when he was the best head of youth we've ever had?

It’s not who I would have chosen without a doubt but I am quietly optimistic this new coaching set up might work out.

I don’t buy into the ‘big name’ coach to be honest. It doesn’t always work out for the best for either party, so with that Peet being someone some Batley fan turns round and says “who?” about is an irrelevance.

100% support from me going in to 2022. I like what Peet has to say and the way he presented himself. Let’s see what 2022 brings.

Isn't that just what always happens with assistant coaches? I can't remember ever hearing of a side bringing in a new coach when the current one has been temporarily unavailable. In fact has Peet not coached us at some point when either Lam or Wane has been ill?

Pretty much my thoughts.

Would I have loved Craig Bellamy or Ivan Cleary? Of course I would, but I can see why the club have chosen him when you consider his CV.

Briers has worked with him before (has he chosen his own staff??????) so they will know how one another works, as will SOL and from what I have heard about Peet from numerous people there will be nobody getting an easy ride.

Let's give the guy a chance before we slag him (and of course the club) off shall we? Let's try something new for a change.

So he was ready three years ago then? Why didn't he get the gig when Wane left? As I have to keep saying, I believe it's time for someone from outside the club to come in and shake things up - we look stale as a club and promoting from within doesn't look the right appointment given where we are.

I'm assuming that a club like Melbourne would have more than one assistant, but it was Maguire who took over.

Spot on.

Plus the scenes when Lee Briers lifts the SL trophy with Wigan against Wire will be biblical.
