The Johnstone signing is so so tempting. He is a freak of a player and you could probably get him on a deal worth nowhere near what his talent warrants, had it not been for the injury problems but those injury concerns are huge. It isn’t just his knee problems but he’s on a tightrope with his head knocks as well.
Lots of things to consider for the people making that call.
If true that means French is off home presumably.
Given his injury record I’d rather keep French however it depends on the rest of the recruitment strategy given his departure would free up a quota spot.
I guess it also comes down to what French wants to do if he wants to go home then Johnstone would be a potentially good replacement however the injury record is a major concern.
I am of the opinion Wakefield should let him go unless they can get him on reduced terms as they simply cannot have the bulk of their salary cap sat in the stands given their financial challenges.
Wigan can probably accommodate that risk though.
I think Johnstone has stagnated a little at Wakey. He is a fantastic finisher however his weaknesses particularly positionally in defence have not improved too much.
As I said if it came down to a choice of Johnstone or French it’s French every time for me, but if French wants to go home TJ would be a signing to get the fans excited and maintain the momentum of excitement players like French, Field and Johnstone have in regard putting bums on seats.
