I think the post a couple above about Ben Kilner and how he could go if given the opportunity is what we should be looking at in the first month or two of the season. We’ll have Singleton, Bullock, Partington, Havard and Clubb more than likely making up at least 4 of the 17 but there’s bound to be injuries, suspensions and rests and then you’re looking at Byrne and Kilner.

i think it will be 5 as I think and hope they will play 1 at 13 and keep bateman at second row

Bizarre that he performed so poorly, he looked absolute quality when at Penrith and was on the verge of the NSW Origin team at one point.

Just goes to show there are no guarantees with anyone you bring in.

I didn’t realise he’d had such a high billing at one point. Looking at his stats he was a regular at Penrith but left at the end of 2017 and has hardly played since. Maybe it’s injury issues and I know Wire were meant to be mortified with his fitness when he turned up, so he’s clearly fell off a cliff somewhere since 2017.

You’re correct in not knowing what you’ll get regardless of reputation and outlay. There has been a Widdop/Orford/Matty Johns for every Carmont type signing made by clubs here.

The lesser names like Carmont always seem to do better than the high profile names do for some reason. Presumably because they arrive with little pressure.

It might be that the higher profile players come over for a last pay day whereas the lesser known still have something to prove,it may be a state of mind thing

Tends to be the forwards that come over and underperform IMO. I think maybe playing in the pack in the NRL takes its toll quicker than playing in the backs, hence there being a bit of tread left of the tyres of the likes of Carmont and Hodgson

No point in signing a player unless he can improve the team and what I have seen of Latu he wouldn't. Then again who knows what Rads may do, he has form e.g. Clark.

That’s my worry. At this stage of pre-season there aren’t many props available so I’m hoping they don’t see him as a quick cheap option to get another body in
