Re: Wire (A) : Sat Apr 15, 2023 6:37 pm
I’ve watched the game back and there was one really poor call in the game, which was a missed knock on against Matty Russell, when taking a bomb near his line (it bounced off him, on to a Wigan man and back to him). The Minikin try was 50/50 and meaningless anyway (although I did think it dropped off his arm when I watched it back). The VR didn’t actually look at the best angle for the O’Neill grounding but the last replay on the Sky coverage showed there was no separation and he got downward pressure on it.

There has been too much talk about the decisions (which I’m joining in with). The best team on the night won but should’ve won by many more on the balance of play. The Wire fans were in overdrive moaning at the officials from minute one and were only bettered by Matt Dufty, who doesn’t like being tackled much.

A decent first game between the two this season and I expect there are bigger battles to come and with stronger teams (hopefully).

Yes forgot about the Russell one, that was a poor call as even if ref didn’t see it, it was right next to a touch judge.

It’s interesting reading the other forums that a section of the fans of arguably our biggest rivals only want to talk about refs at the moment.

Dufty was constantly throwing himself to the floor to surrender and then moaning about being held down. It's literally the rule.

Don’t get all the fuss watching it back. You’d think that last try decision was one which was ruled out to seal a win for them and not a consolation score (forgetting that it looked the right call anyway). The VR probably needs some feedback on the O’Neill one, that he should at least have a glance at all the angles before turning a no try on field, in to a try but he was correct in the end. I even saw the Drinkwater no try slated somewhere!

If the Wire fans manage to keep up that level of moaning throughout another 80 minutes this season, they’re a shot of taking the Leeds South Stands crown! They could be dripping in Silverware come October.

First view I thought the Drinkwater try was a try as I didn't spot the touch off Vaughan. Definitely the correct call though.

At first I thought O’Neill was offside, the grounding was clear you see a few of these when players slam the ball down. The last try was determined by the ref, he was the closest and there is an argument of separation.

Re: Wire (A) : Sun Apr 16, 2023 2:00 pm
Was thinking about a possible rule change after Friday's game. Harry Smith puts up a high kick which travels forward 30/40m, the fullback/winger let it bounce and it bounces backwards to a Wigan player who was in front of the kicker and technically in an offside position. Other than leave the ball and let it bounce towards our tryline until a Warrington player picks up, there was nothing we could do in that scenario and Warrington are rewarded for poor defensive play. This also happened at the Leigh game and to another team on Easter weekend.

Why not state that chasers in front of the kicker must stay 10m away from the bounce of the ball as well as 10m away from the point where the defender touches the ball?

A long way from Wigan

Re: Wire (A) : Sun Apr 16, 2023 2:17 pm
Much of the moaning and arm throwing from wire regarding holding down was following the ref calling surrender. I think it's the most calls i've heard in a game. Wigan rightly took their time to set the defence. I can imagine in the crowd it's frustrating as you don't hear the call from the ref.

I really don't understand the criticism of Brads put down for his try. First look in real time it's odds on a bounced ball, but on the other angle there is absolutely no separation even at slow motion - and that's the whole purpose of the VR.
