Bang average as is French.

It's always difficult to lose a very important game when you'd convinced yourself you were going to win.

But to be fair, I only gave us a slim chance this morning. And when the tide nearly turned, for 10 minutes or so it looked as though they were simply going to sweep us aside.

I remember the days when we were the team who could not imagine losing. That defeat at Salford on that terrible grey day, after so many cup victories won at a canter, was one of my worst experiences as a Wigan fan. It was probably matched only by the loss to Sheffield at Wembley a couple of years later, because on both those occasions I comfortably expected victory and came away 100% blaming Wigan (in the Sheffield case I still do), convinced that we had been far too complacent, lax, arrogant etc etc.

The truth is you can never treat victory as an entitlement. There are two teams out there, both of whom really want it. And even the best laid plans can go badly awry on the big day.

Don’t think we can underestimate the psychological boost this should give everyone, beating them in a must win game for what seems like the first time in ages

I’ve only looked on there for the first time after todays game. My word they’re a bitter bunch, and there’s a good few posters who a proper hung up on us and have a serious hatred - it’s pish funny! As some have alluded to on here, aside from some reasonable posters, it’s an absolute cesspit.

In the same posts they’re saying Field is rubbish, yet he’s the only threat we have and our season would be done without him.

It wouldn’t be a bad thing for them to accept they did nothing in that first half because we didn’t let them. Our starting pack matched their starters, and they couldn’t pull anything out of the hat when they weren’t well on top. They were superb after the break for a 15-20 minute spell with the interchange forwards, and LMS played an absolute blinder on us in the process. The Marshall final try doesn’t happen by accident or luck - we were very good at taking advantage of errors. And ultimately that’s all that Saints did in their good spell.

Harry Smith showed another level of maturity today, and finally after about 10 years we seem to have a decent long range field kicker!

No doubt the best team won today question is can you play to that level every week? I've no doubt you'll win the final though.

Good call on Smith.

Compare his performance today to a couple of months ago when he came on for Tommy against Cas and he looked a bag of nerves even though the game was well in hand (we nearly had to bring TL back on).

Him and Cust working well

Does it matter? We only have to play well in the big games. As for the final, it will be a tough game.

Not one Wigan player would get In Saints 1-13. Farrell would probably make the bench and that’s it. I know you all will shout “jai field” but he’s really not that good. Can’t pass and can’t defend. He’s just fast but against a good team he’s invisible. Welsby is half the age and already twice the all round player

Oh dear, beaten by a bunch of lads who wouldn't get in the Saints side  Excuses on a postcard please.

Where is the Saints guy who offered Wigan 20 start? Are you Mike Rush in disguise?
