A win almost all the more satisfying because few of our key players had strong games; Field and French were both a bit scratchy, and Bateman was poor. Fortunately Harry Smith bucked the trend, and his kicking game and general play was very good. Marshall made a few errors, but reminded us what a good finisher he is. Great stuff.

Second semi on now looks an exciting game.

I thought Smiths long kicking was brilliant today

Not one Wigan player would get In Saints 1-13. Farrell would probably make the bench and that’s it. I know you all will shout “jai field” but he’s really not that good. Can’t pass and can’t defend. He’s just fast but against a good team he’s invisible. Welsby is half the age and already twice the all round player

How the hell did we win this one as Farrell could only get on the subs bench.
Field cant defend ask Hurrell as he stopped a certain try.

So good to stuff Stains I await reasons why the super duper Saints lost.

Marshall- mom for me, made mistakes but made up for it with his try.Won the game for us.

I said before the game what we needed to be more than anything was disciplined both with and without the ball. The 1st half was better but still a bit too much dropped ball for me, they were clunky enough not to take advantage. Had to be pleased at half time.

Second half we were back to being indisciplined and lacked concentration. Probably live game watching bias but it felt as though we were hammered by the ref too. Credit to the team though, we hung in there and when the opportunity presented itself we took advantage.

Smith’s kicking from hand was very good, that’s the best long kicking game from a Wigan side I’ve seen for a long time.

Gotta give credit to Lomax, I hope today hasn’t aggravated the problem and he is available for the WC.

Saint's kicking in the 2nd half and their aggressive chase and competing makes it very difficult to defend against. I think pretty harsh to criticise Field and French too much

Actually the try Saints scored on the RHS their attackers were offside which is why I think Cust was giving the ref an earful. Shocking he went straight to the try rather than checking

Fields try saving tackle on Hurrell was pretty special and he made a few last man tackles too.

I don't usually bag the ref, but to ping us 4 times in a row for offside when Saints are doing it constantly was quite ridiculous.

We showed alot of heart to stay in that game although I think we didn't do enough with the ball when we finally got it. Shorrocks at 9 was pretty poor on our own line at times and we lost composure for a while.

Overall it was a very special win and shows we are on a upward curve. Really pleased for the team.and coaches.

Not sure if I qualify for this (I did stick up for 2 of the players being slagged off) I’ll certainly hold my hand up for being negative in the situation but I stand by what I said, we really did let Saints back into that game and I thought there was only 1 winner when they took the lead and for me we would have only had ourselves to blame if we lost.

I wouldn't argue. But we dominated that game for the whole of the first half and the last 10 mins of the second and won the game, breaking their hearts in the final minutes. Would you have taken that if I'd offered it before kick off? You can't expect to outplay Saints for 80 minutes. A team isn't defined by by its setbacks but by how it responds. We responded. For people to be even using the word "bottlers" is not only incorrect but insulting. You could see the fight in them even when things weren't going our way.

We're 80 minutes and 1 good performances away from a possible first trophy of the season when many were saying we'd win nothing this season. We beat Saints to get that opportunity. That'll do for now :D

Any win against Saints is a good win, errors where made and there are areas of improvement but the slagging off of players in this thread is pathetic and embarrassing.

So much pleasure to watch Stains fans implode and try to figure out why they lost, they lost to a better team on the day,we are now in the final.
Cant wait for the final if we win that (it isnt a given) that would be the second part of my prediction)
I did say Cust for mos but looks like Field could be the one.
From a happy Wigan fan.

I agree it really is pathetic as none of our team are good enough to get in the stains team.

Half-time came at the wrong time for us, we were well in control up to that point. Second half we just didn't get going (although Saints did up the tempo a lot).even on the first set we looked less enthusiastic for some reason and that coninued and we lost some harsh ref calls as well. It took almost to the last plays before he pinged Saints for a set restart despite a lot of slowing the play the ball.

Still we won - something we haven't managed to do for a long time in such a big game. That must give the players a confiedence boost.
