Just read Havard will miss the start of the season after undergoing back surgery.
Flogging the kids whilst leaving three senior props twiddling their thumbs all year really was a masterstroke.

That's a shame - particularly as a back injury could well prevent him from doing any sort of training. Looks like Byrne or Partington for the 4th prop spot then.

Regan Grace also out for a month for Saints.

Staggering how often this seems to happen at the commencement of the season. Maybe its dewy-eyed nostalgia, but I'm sure I remember the days when you'd start each season with an entirely fit and fresh squad.

I always think that myself. I wonder if they’re less inclined to put players through operations nowadays. It felt like years ago there would be players who’d get to the end of each season and have a list of 3 or 4 operations they’d get done. It feels like they try and give players more time now to try and get over problems and hope they can manage it to the point of avoiding surgery. It might just be we’ve had a few back and neck issues recently and that’s a sensitive area that they need to be careful with.

I always wonder if some of it is down the different types of training they seem to do these days? Army camps, or other weird and wonderful stuff.

I'd be interested to know, if it was ever possible to find out, just how many injuries we sustain during training compared with other clubs. Not following the injury misfortunes of others, I'm prepared to believe that there is no difference ... but purely from a Wigan fan perspective, we do seem to suffer an awful lot.

Regan Grace and Morgan Knowles out for Saints, three out for Hull. Most clubs will have one or two missing at the start of the season, I do think it's down to the more intense fitness regimes these days rather than the three laps of the pitch, a few sprints and then a game of tick and pass

Shame of Havard, he’s a level above Partington, Smithies and Bryne IMO.

Thought he’d be up for securing a regular start this season. Played through his back/neck injury last year and still performed well.

Luckily it’s a position we have plenty of options.

heard on the grapevine that magoulias is missing 5/6 weeks for warrington, ankle injury in training.

We've got a 2 acl injuries from last year (minikin and harrison) and i think jack hughes has had a small operation during pre season,

That probably won’t help but I think with the play off system you’re less inclined to risk players at the start of the season and if there is a decision to be made of surgery you’d be more inclined to get them done and out of the way early season and have the player fit for the business end of the season.
