Had a poor 2021 but from 2015/16 to 2019 before his injuries of 2020 he was IMO thr best overall British Centre.

Hes had a difficult start in the NRL and whilst not saying he's definitely up to the NRL standard, there are also a couple of other mitigating factors why they may not be seeing the best of him.

However

I am 100% certain that if the injury is recovered, and he regained a bit of confidence from regular rugby, he is still a Top Notch player that would improve any club over here and be in Wanes World Cup plans/thoughts.

Not to mention he was excellent for England when selected.

If he were available and it was good enough for Peet, Rads, Wane etc, that would be good enough for me. The money would need to be right and you’d want a decent medical but we’re stocked heavy on overseas players and need more quality British players on board. Where do you realistically find a better English centre than Gildart? You’re not going to get Farnworth and the rest are much of a muchness.

Yeah I think this is a pretty pragmatic view.
As long as he would really like to comeback and he passes a vigorous fitness check it could be the answer.
With Bibby seemingly going to Huddersfield I wonder if Wardle may be available albeit a transfer fee may have to be paid?

Post George Burgess, "decent medical" being the key.

Wardle is raw but has great potential. I would like to get hold of him and Connor Wrench.

I’d have Gildart back. Yes his last season was poor but to forget about his years of excellence is unfair. Whilst in the main I’m against re-signing players, with our centre issue we’d be daft not to consider it if it were to become realistic.

The issue is that if he were to become available there’d be no doubt Warrington would be in there offering wages we simply won’t. That’s where he will end up in all likelihood.

Maybe so, but you can only judge players on their most recent contributions.

Just because he used to be good, we didn't see any of that in his last year, and I haven't seen anything better from him to date in the NRL (although admittedly, I don't watch too much NRL these days).

IF (and that's a big "if") we are to consider offering him a contract, it would have to be based 100% on the player he is right now - Not the guy that he used to be, who may never return.

Gildart seems to be dropped until further notice by Wests anyway. They seem to have brought Naden in to replace him. Althought I don't think Naden is all that either.
