I think that's local journalism in a nutshell tbf. I'm not sure if it's down to a lack of resource or they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them, but there's very little compelling reasons to read most local papers.
I know from personal experience that I can very easily ring up a number of local rags and get a story in there about the company I work for. Let's face it though, no one outside our business + a few key people care that we've won an award, or got some new business in. It's just filler for the paper and a bit of free publicity for us. Why would anyone take out a subscription to read stuff like that?
