Will we be in it then? : Sat Jul 16, 2022 7:29 pm
So next week looks like it is when IMG will be revealing their plans for the new format, will we be in it?
Looking at a couple of articles online it said dont be surprised if they throw in a Dublin or Edinburgh. It seemed strange that last week Bradford have now approached the government in regards to getting funding for the new stadium via the governments levelling up plans.
Do you reckon David Hughes has been approached in regards to Londons involvement. With IMG's offices in the Australia and their links with Australian clubs it would have been good if IMG could have approached a few of the teams in Australia selling them the idea of loaning players to London with IMG maybe running the London team.

It is my understanding that IMG have ben tasked with coming up with ways by which the RFL/SL can make more revenue from the game. Given David Hughes' ability to turn a SL club with a turn over of 4 million pounds a year into the cabbage that we are now, I would suggest that IMG wouldn't be keen to ask him anything, nor invite him to participate in anything.

If IMG believe that a London based club is a necessity for the game to grow revenue, I would suggest they either start from scratch or offer Hughes a quid to buy the club from him. If he remains at the club in any shape or form, then any "new ownership/partnership" model will be doomed as all those before have been when they involve Hughes.

Yep, clear Hughes out so any London club is not handicapped by his decision making.

It really is a sad end to what has been a well intended campaign by one man to keep the game going at the highest level in London.
Without a shadow of a doubt, if I won euro millions I'd build a small stadium for the broncos and name a stand after the man, but he really has made significant errors over the years and there is no chance of recovery or even slight growth with him in situ.
If you asked him now if he thought the changes made this year have worked he'd say yes......that's how deluded he is. In reality we've spent more money on ground rent and have fewer fans.....I'm struggling to find anything positive from 2022 other than we might survive and the Ladies side again being a top team.

I think IMG wil want a London based club in the new structure
Whether that club is the Broncos, Skolars or something completly new is up for debate

1. Something new? What would be the point? Given a "leg up" at the start of this modern era, London failed to attract fans or "independent" sponsors in sufficient numbers to be self sustainable. Successive owners have walked away in defeat, including Branson who could afford to bankroll us with ease but saw the futility. What assurances could a new entity and their financers be given about survival? Would the side be permitted to be filled with ANZACS? Where would they rent? How much central assistance would they get with Marketing?
2. The Skolars? A lot would depend on if they remain where they are and the ground is developed. Personally, the level of investment needed in London RL has to include a stadium that the capital can call their own and Skolars ground has the potential. Skolars are a decent brand and have made a decent fist of it so far, doing it the hard way. It can be argued that they'd be stronger this year if we hadn't butchered them, and if the ground can be developed, they'd be a viable option if there was again long term assurances given to those bankrolling the club.
3. London Broncos? Where to start? Without Hughes.....nothing else will happen whilst he still has any control over the club. Even then, he has done so much damage already, is there anything left to salvage?

Skolars might be the better option.......but of all three, financial support with good management decisions before they even get a look in.....IMG are tasked with making money....London RL outside of the odd event, has never delivered before ......

It depends if IMG wants a london club. If they do I don't see them choosing it to be Broncos with all our recent history of ****ing everybody in London off

If they do want a London side, I can't see what Skolars can offer even with say an NRL strengthened team. I can't see a completely new team attracting much support as we already know most exiled northerners only come to Broncos if their team is playing & Aussies rarely come at all.

Broncos do have the potential to re-energise their former supporters but clearly not while the Madcap is in control.
