MINERS 18s CROWNED MINOR PREMIERS : Tue Mar 10, 2009 9:52 pm
ON MINERS WEBSITE

Youth team claim top spot without playing!

Miners under-18s were confirmed as Gillette National Youth League Minor Premiers at the weekend in somewhat frustrating circumstances as nearest rivals Celtic Crusaders conceded both games to the league leaders. Having travelled down to Treorchy on Saturday, Miners saw the ground fail a pitch inspection following torrential overnight rain whilst their hosts also elected to forfeit the return journey to Twist Lane on Wednesday 11th March, seeing Miners claim the four competition points which confirms them as table toppers.

SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!

Congratulations , although it hasn't really been in doubt since very early in the season that they are the best team in the comp

Shame our friends from the valleys have decided to forfeit both games , it would have been good to see how they would have gone against you

Hopefully they will travel up to Leigh to give Easts a chance for revenge for the defeat down at brewery field

Once again , well done

What, forfeit four points - after all the bull**** we've been fed about the thriving youth set up at CC?! How does that sit with the RFL?

Maybe better to avoid any games until a ' knockout ' situation

Well done to The Miners but Celtic Crusaders  Is this the start of things to come from 'The Valleys'?

I agree Mr.C and if it was possible they should be fined for forfeitting the games. This does not send out a good message. I know the geography of it all does not help, but tough luck, if you want to be in the comp then you have to be prepared for all that it throws at you.

I agree but they will be allowed to compete in the playoffs and will be the ones "they" want to win it.

CC SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE PLAY OFFS

In student rugby, a forfeited game carries a -2 penalty. Don't know how that would affect the play-offs, but losing four league points would be a pretty strong disincentive.
