I bet a good deal of your penalties are not even for going high. Doubtlessly, many of them will be for offside, not square, ball stealing etc. Unfortunately, modern rugby and its different rulings give referees far too much power in influencing a game. A lot of the matches in Championship 1 are very evenly contested and if a referee decides to absolutely cane you on the day for offences such as offside and not square and largely ignore offences from your opponents , you have very little chance of winning. No team in the Championship, imo, is good enough to play the ref and constantly triumph despite consistently huge penalty accounts against them. On your day,you will be capable of beating any team in the league, but if you are constantly on the wrong end of huge penalty counts, you will struggle. IMO,this is just not fair. A referee in rugby union or league can more or less give a penalty whenever they feel like it. If he is pedantic enough and constantly applying the letter of the law, the game will consist of an unending stream of penalties. At the moment, from the penalty counts I am reading in League Express, your team is struggling a lot more than most. The Featherstone and Doncaster match totals almost beggared belief. Is any team consistently that stupid? No they are not. Were Featherstone, Sheffield, Doncaster really that saintly or if a referee really had wanted to, could he have justifiably penalised these teams out of the game. I tend to think he could.
