It's not so much that they've been successful (there were then, too, more's the pity), but more that the Glazer family haven't actually changed anything, and the rudolph-nosed scots whinger in charge has been able to sign (or hang on to) pretty much who he wanted. Liverpool have. meanwhile, been in corporate-management chaos, Aresnal have had no money, and Chelski have gone through more manager than Man City. Suddenly, the perceived reason for setting up a fans club has melted. The Glazer's aren't that bad, Utd is much the same as it was before, and other clubs have had it for worse from their foreign investors (West Ham? Takhsin Shinawatra??)
So, there's no real 'need' for the fans' team after all. Unlike, say, Wimbledon, who's "club" has gone forever to the home of the concrete cows, leaving Winbledon FC the only actual Wimbledon club in Wimbledon.
Now, if MUFC upped and went to play in Philadelphia or Shanghai, we could all be happy.
