I don’t disagree with him as stupid as it sounds. I know we look an absolute mile off but with the league how it is, a few tweaks and a bit of confidence/momentum and we’re back in the race. I don’t buy all this 2-3 years away talk.

Those who can remember what Tony Barrow did in 1986 will know that anything is possible.

Recap from Warrington Rugby League Legends

March 1986 - Tony Barrow stepped into the temporary berth with Boyd as his assistant. This would be the beginning of a remarkable run, after losing three games in six days then drawing away to Wigan, Wire wouldn't lose another match as they marched to eight straight wins including Widnes in the Premiership 1st Round at home and Wigan away in the semi and then a second half demolition of Champions Halifax in the Elland Road final with tries from Boyd, Tamati, Jackson, Bishop, Johnson and Forster to win 38-10 to lift their first trophy in four years.

OK but Tony Barrow had a legendary pack with Boyd, Tamati, Roberts, Mike Gregory and co, plus Andy Gregory at scrum half and Phil Blake and Brian Johnson in the backs.

How many players from our current side would get into that Premiership winning side of 1986?

Probably the Daryl Clark of 18 months or so ago and a peak Ratchford on the bench for cover? Probably about it IMHO though.

Bit of a nothing interview. Clichés followed by nonsense. "We know what we need to do" - do you? "New players in the camp" - like every other club?

I prefer Powell's "we're miles off" honesty than this tripe. Though he blamed Easter after the Wigan schooling.

I have a feeling we'll end this season very strongly and with plenty of momentum.

I don't think it'll be enough to topple Saints but I reckon we'll be playing a hell of a lot better in August than we are right now.

Hooker Walker said: “I wasn’t on for the first half hour or so but a few of the lads said it was a really fast and really tough start to the game. We just weren’t quite there in that first period. We were off that little bit and Wigan just took advantage of that. Fair play to them.

Where does he think he is then a Sunday morning kick around.

I really like Walker as a player, and I admire his gumption, but I can't share the view that we are a "little off the mark" and the suggestion we could mount a challenge to Saints is, frankly, ludicrous.

We aren't losing because of the odd bad decision in defence, or bad luck - we are losing because we have two pedestrian half backs with no kicking game between them, an anaemic pack and a collective wbo are repeatedly making basic, fundamental errors and seem to have lost all sense of desire, urgency and passion.

If we turn it around it will make the 86 Prem run look like a Sunday morning u9s sevens match.

I really like Danny Walker. Seems a lively lad with that bit of spark we need.
Making comments to the press or online is bound to bring criticism it's not easy to get it right.
He's brave or misguided to get involved. I think it's easier not to say too much.

When listening to players & coaches I reckon it is best not to expect anything that is earth shattering.
It's difficult to be original ... difficult when you lose and dead easy when your winning.
