I’ve said before, we’ll never know who is responsible for the ineffective coaching being on the outside, until the assistants get a chance to prove themselves. Having been an assistant coach, I know just how frustrating it can be having to implement plans and systems that you principally do not agree with, but that is your job. You trust the plan, trust the system and ultimately trust the board. However; it is up to the board to assess the system, is it working? If not, why not.
Lee could be a great coach, could be. But we don’t know yet. He’ll get his chance, likely to be somewhere else, but we may see him back down the line.
I’ve said elsewhere, we face a really tough run. If we drop points against Wakefield, we are staring down the barrels of missing the play offs should we not get something from Wigan, Saints and Leeds multiple times. Both Hull clubs, Leeds and Huddersfield will fancy their chances of making the play offs, Cas if they can turn things around too. I think we’re one or two bad results away from a change.
The caretaker would be likely to have the “take the reigns off” approach and let this talented bunch play, as there is no deterrent. They won’t get the job regardless of results.
That said, Price has a habit of delivering just enough to stay above water. I expect a win against Wakefield, spirited go at Saints but fall short and then a win against Leigh which will paper over the cracks for another month or so.
