Atmosphere on Friday : Tue May 19, 2009 1:01 pm
I'm really looking forward to Friday, Wigan games are special and usually the atmosphere is much, much better than other games. Can I make a controversial suggestion - can we try a game without the drums? The crowd won't need any encouragement for this game, so it would be nice to enjoy an "old fashioned" atmosphere generated purely by singing and shouting.

What do the drummers think?

Well with the vast majority of fans at Featherstone looking at me to lead them in song last weekend, some seem to be unwilling to make much noise without them*.

I'll be taking mine, if people don't seem interested without them, then it'll be getting used.

*Having said that, even when I did put the effort in, most didn't seem to care

I don't stand near them, but you can't avoid hearing them. We never used to need them.

I personally think the drums add to the atmosphere, without them you end up with various different groups of people along the South Stand singing different songs or the same song out of time which sounds dreadful!!!
